Two special events at VIENNA FASHION WEEK.24 will show how fashion can address social topics. Fashion Reloaded presented by Pensionist*innenklubs Wien will bring unique, upcycled creations by senior citizens to the catwalk, while another show called Uplift presented by Nunu Kaller will present local designers who redesign clothes for a good cause. Both events send a strong signal for sustainability and inclusion.
Fashion Reloaded presented by Pensionist*innenklubs Wien: a catwalk for lived memories
The Fashion Reloaded show, initiated by the Pensionist*innenklubs Wien, will be a premiere. It all began with the desire to revive memories of loved ones through fashion. From the treasures of a textile estate – the finest fabrics such as cashmere, linen and silk – comes the idea of breathing new life into these unique pieces. Under the direction of Madlena Komitova and Irena Reichel, the senior designers develop creative collections that are not only fashionable, but also convey a strong message: Away from fast fashion, towards longevity and individuality.
Particularly impressive is the fact that the club members will not only appear as designers, but also as models. The project is also supported by renowned labels such as Pitour, Sabine Karner, Shakkei and Amateur, who are providing designer pieces for upcycling.
It shows that age is no limit to creativity and that senior citizens have a right to participation and self-realisation. This premiere will send a powerful signal for a new perspective on age and the role of the older generation in our society.
Uplift presented by Nunu Kaller: fashion that changes lives
13 designers from Vienna and Lower Austria will present unique upcycled creations made from donated clothing that originally no longer seemed wearable. This show will not only be a fashionable event, but will also set a powerful example for sustainability and inclusion.
Supported by the Ludwig Boltzmann Gesellschaft (LBG) and Caritas, and in collaboration with sustainability activist and author Nunu Kaller, the upcycled pieces will be presented in a show that celebrates diversity. Models of all ages, sizes, genders and figures will bring the creations to the catwalk and prove that fashion can be inclusive and accessible for everyone.
100% of the profits from the sale of the items in the Pop-Up Store will go to the Gruft, a Caritas homeless centre. The show will impressively draw attention to how quickly people can slip into homelessness due to strokes of fate such as job loss or illness and how important it is to support people in need.
Fashion with heart and mind
These two upcoming events will impressively demonstrate that fashion can be far more than just an aesthetic pleasure. Fashion Reloaded presented by Pensionist*innenklubs Wien and Uplift presented by Nunu Kaller send a clear signal in favour of sustainability, inclusion and social commitment.
