To celebrate its 25th anniversary, Karin Oèbster takes the audience of MQ VIENNA FASHION WEEK into the KAYIKO universe. 30 looks were presented through 10 visual stories. The current Autumn/Winter 2023 collection from the Viennese avant-garde label showcases drapery, a play with materials, and artisan craftsmanship.
KAYIKO is not only an integral part of the Viennese fashion scene, but has also been breaking away from trends for 25 years under the motto “Less is More” and stands for minimalist opulence. The autumn/winter collection 2023 was entitled “Dream or Reality”.
To take the audience on this journey between dream and reality, Karin Oèbster broke up the classic interpretation of the catwalk and rethought it in the spirit of the avant-garde. Ben Krischke, as narrator, has guided us through ten individual picture stories. Three looks each were accompanied by a short storyline.
Whirlwind in the head
Quiet Luxury is one of the trends of the moment, KAYIKO has been living it since the very beginning. The designs were convincing with their elaborate yet understated details and the play with silhouettes. Equipped with sleeping masks and oversized clutches reminiscent of head pads, the models walked the catwalk.
The influence of Japanese designs was shown through kimonos and obis—Japanese belts. The use of red in combination with black was also reminiscent of the red sun, a symbol of Japan.
With motifs such as “Whirlwind in your head” or “Magnificient moments are when you don’t know if the dream was real or not”, viewers were invited into the KAYIKO cosmos.
A cosmos of cleverly cut trousers, elaborately draped jackets and capes and a play of materials. Karin Oèbster has created a fluid transition between quilting and patchwork that captivates with minimalist opulence. A collection that turns the 25th anniversary from dream to reality.
