SYLGV: Fashion Girls United

The collective ‘supportyourlocalgirlgangvienna’ (SYLGV for short) presented a collection that combines style and sustainability at Vienna Fashion Week 2024. On show were flowing trousers and skirts in shades of black, blue and yellow, combined with eye-catching hats and ski masks. Worn with everything from cowboy boots to slippers, the outfits were all about comfort and fashion.

One highlight of the show was the creative upcycling: instead of disposing of surplus fabric remnants, these were passed on to accessory designers and artists who used them to create unique pieces for the catwalk show. With this approach, SYLGV sets a clear signal against wasting resources and shows how fashion can actively contribute to reducing the ecological footprint.

SYLGV is a collective that brings together women from Vienna who work in various artistic disciplines. With the CONTEMPORARY DESIGNSHOP event series, they create a creative space that supports Viennese female artists, makes their work visible and emphasises the topic of sustainability.

Founders Birgit Rampula (AMATEUR) and Katharina Amenitsch (KAMEN) have been organising the format, which showcases small series and individual pieces with a timeless design, since 2018. Their fashion is characterised by flowing fabrics, minimalist cuts and urban design. The focus is not only on aesthetics and wearability, but also on responsible production. All products are made in Vienna and use sustainable fabrics and deadstock materials to avoid overproduction.

SYLGV proves that fashion can not only be wearable, but also responsibly designed. The flowing fabrics, minimalist cuts and creative use of materials make their fashion a strong statement for sustainability.
